It's that time again, monKeys! Freerice #6 starts this weekend, and while things will pretty much be the same, we wanted to change things a little to make things more fun and maximize our contributions to charity.
Did you notice we're in the top 5 all-time on Freerice now? We also have a dedicated channel on the Banano Discord server!
First off, we're cutting down to two of our more popular (and reputable) charities: Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and World Central Kitchen. This way we can make a bigger contribution. We've also added an option to donate your Banano earnings from the event to charity (this option will not be public, so don't feel pressured.)
The Banano team has graciously offered to match the first 10,000 Banano donated to this event. If we can reach this goal, that means at least 10k BAN goes straight to charity! If you'd like to contribute, the link to our event wallet is below. Like past events, half goes to charity, half goes to event participants.

Half of the cryptomonKey prizes will be sent randomly to the top 50 eligible participants. The other half will be sent randomly to participants with over 10,000 rice earned for the event.
There may be a new Freerice NFT announced later, but rewards this time are primarily BAN, CMs, and some of our older Freerice NFTs.

What is Freerice?
If you haven't heard of Freerice, it's a site that was created in 2007 by John Breen as a tool to help his son study for the SATs, which he later donated directly to the UN. The concept is simple and addicting. There are multiple choice questions (by default, vocabulary.) If you answer correctly, 10 grains of rice are donated to the World Food Programme (run by the UN) via ad revenue and sponsors.
Charities
Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund
The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund is a US-based charity that works to save mountain gorillas. You may have heard of them from their recent massive support from Wallstreetbets. It was founded and originally named after a gorilla, Digit, that died defending the rest of his group from poachers. The charity funds anti-poaching patrols and provides additional protection and resources for a research facility in Rwanda. They also provide education and other conservation resources for local communities to try to prevent further erosion of gorilla climate.
World Central Kitchen
World Central Kitchen is a charity founded by a celebrity chef that specializes in meal delivery for disaster relief areas. The charity was founded in 2010 to respond to the Haiti earthquake, and has since donated millions of meals in response to countless disasters. When possible, the organization works with local restaurants and chefs, providing supplies, funding, labor, and training when needed to meet the needs of the community. Their support for Covid-19 and first responders in the last few years has given them some media spotlight. They operate around the world based on need, but are headquartered in the US.
How to Join the Event
Make an account at Freerice.com
Once logged in, join our Banano group by clicking here or entering the group code: A7G4VWT7. If the group link does not work, you can access the Groups page by using the menu at the top left to enter that code.
Use this form to enter. We just need your Freerice name, BAN address, and WAX if you have one.
Once you're in the Freerice group, go play! All your rice will count towards the group total, and you'll be paid for your contributions during the 10 day event. Spreadsheet - Updated a few times per day.
Freerice Tips
There are now a few dozen categories besides the default vocabulary, which tends to get boring after a while. Try some of the science categories. If you're looking for something super fast, try Multiplication Table!
You can get to the next question faster if you click or tap as soon as your answer turns green. It will cut down a lot on the transition time.
Freerice works great on all devices. The mobile version of the site works just as well as the full site for most.
Throw on some Netflix or JungleTV on another screen while you play!
Rules
Event runs from 00:00 April 10th to 23:59 April 19th. All times are EST unless otherwise stated.
Participants are paid equal to their percentage of the group's rice earned multiplied by the half Banano pot. (Your Rice Earned / Group Total) x Banano x 0.5 [If you earn 1% of the rice, you earn 0.5% of the Banano.] Remember, the other half of the Banano pot is split between those charities.
Payments will be capped to discourage cheating. Rice earned over the cap will still count towards the charity that user chose, it will just not earn Banano over that cap. There are certainly ways to game Freerice, but this is a way to reward the community for doing something great. If you want to take advantage of the site, we ask that you just do not join our group. Cap will be 69,420 grains, like the last few events.
Multiple entries will be removed.
Donation and Contact Info
- Banano Event Wallet - This is the event pot. Distribution will come from this address following the close of the event.
- Banano WAX Wallet - All WAX donations to this account fund the minting of new Freerice NFTs. Any NFTs donated before the end of the event will be distributed to participants.
-Both of these charities are on The Giving Block, which accepts a large number of different cryptocurrencies. Feel free to donate crypto through there, or donate directly to these charities.
